Keeping my Partners Spirits Up
Being pregnant must be a nightmare. As a man, it can be quite difficult to stand by and watch your loved one struggling with something so difficult, and I think this is even more the case if it is your first child. When my girlfriend and I discovered that we were having a baby, we were absolutely overjoyed, but in a matter of weeks the excitement was overtaken by anxiety, tiredness and sickness. My partner suffered terribly with morning sickness, and that lasted up until her fifteenth week. It was only I think a couple of months later, when she was about 23 weeks pregnant that she started to suffer heartburn really badly.
It was difficult for me to watch her suffer, and I felt so helpless. I decided that ~I had to do something, so I started looking into what could be done to make her feel better. I found quite a few things out on the internet about diet which could help, and I also headed out that very day to buy the biggest vat of Gaviscon I could find!
That night I told my partner that I was cooking every meal from now on. I also showed her our new menu, and asked what she wanted tonight! When she found out that I had put together about ten different meals that would hopefully help to eliminate her heartburn, she was thrilled.
Things improved immeasurably from that point on. I think more than anything it was the fact that I was trying to support her that got us through that difficult stage in her pregnancy.
